Defence School Entrance Exam: Syllabus, Pattern & Preparation Tips

The Defence School Entrance Exam, otherwise known officially as the All India Sainik School Entrance Examination (AISSEE) is been conducted every year by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for admission to Class 6 and Class 9. Being an autonomous institution under the Ministry of Defence, Government of India, it runs English-medium residential institutions approved and recognized under the CBSE curriculum.

Exam Pattern at a Glance

The class 6 examination has 125 questions, carrying a total of 300 marks. On the other hand, standard 9 examination has 150 questions, with a total marks carrying 400. Here, there’s no negative marking for unanswered or incorrectly answered queries, with exams been conducted in pen and paper for questions in the MCQ format.

Syllabus Overview

For standard 6, the AISSEE syllabus covers Language, Maths, and GK/GS. On the other hand, for standard 9, students must prepare topics on the syllabus pertaining to subjects like: Maths, English, Social Science, General Science, and Intelligence. Here, Maths carries the highest weightage, with 50 questions each worth 3 marks, covering a total of 150 marks for standard 6.

Eligibility for Sainik School Rajasthan Admission

Sainik School Chittorgarh, located in Rajasthan, was founded in the year 1961 and is one of the first 5 Sainik Schools in India. The age the candidate must possess is between 10–12 years for standard 6 and 13–15 years for standard 9, before 31st March of the examination year.

Preparation Tips

In order to do well and crack the exam, one should do the following:

●      Solve previous years' question papers

●      Revise regularly

●      Improve general knowledge, and

●      Make handwritten notes to retain concepts more effectively.

In order to qualify, one has to secure at least 25% marks per subject and 40% marks in aggregate.
