Always walk on the footpath only. On roads without footpaths, walk on the extreme right-hand side of the road.
Do not be impatient on the road. Do not rush or run on the road.
Cross only at zebra crossings, traffic signals, subways, and foot overbridges. Where such facilities do not exist, look for a safe place to cross.
At traffic signals, cross only when the pedestrian signal is green. If an intersection is controlled by a policeman, traffic warden, or RSP cadet, cross only when instructed to do so.
When crossing between parked vehicles, remember that you may not be visible to moving traffic because the parked vehicles can block the driver's view.
Before crossing, stop after stepping out from behind the parked vehicle and look carefully for a safe gap in the traffic.
Remember that drivers need enough time to notice you, slow down, and stop safely.
While crossing wide roads with central islands, cross in two stages. Reach the central island first, stop, and then cross the remaining section when it is safe.
When crossing one-way streets, remember that traffic may be moving in multiple lanes and at higher speeds. Cross only when all lanes are clear.
Never cross a road at a corner or curve, as drivers turning the corner may not see you in time.
Do not run while crossing the road, as you may slip, fall, or misjudge the speed of approaching vehicles.
